In 1862, Tárrega entered the Madrid Conservatory, where he studied guitar with José Ferrer. He quickly became one of the top students in his class, and he won several prizes for his playing. In 1869, he graduated from the Conservatory with the highest honors.
Career
After graduating from the Conservatory, Tárrega began his career as a concert guitarist. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the finest guitarists in Spain, and he toured extensively throughout Europe and the Americas.
