A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen
A Doll's House is a three-act play by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. The play premiered in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1879. The play is set in Norway in the 1870s and tells the story of Nora Helmer, a young woman who is trapped in a loveless marriage to Torvald Helmer, a successful lawyer.
Nora is a kind and loving wife and mother, but she is also unhappy. She feels stifled by her husband and her life. She longs for freedom and independence, but she is afraid to leave her husband and children.
One day, Nora receives a letter from Krogstad, a former employee of Torvald's who has been blackmailing her. Krogstad threatens to expose Nora's secret to Torvald unless she gets him his job back.
Nora is terrified of what will happen if Torvald finds out her secret. She begs Krogstad to leave her alone, but he refuses. Nora is desperate, and she eventually agrees to Krogstad's demands.
Torvald eventually finds out about Nora's secret, and he is furious. He calls her a liar and a hypocrite, and he tells her that she is no longer welcome in his home.
Nora is heartbroken, but she knows that she can no longer live with Torvald. She leaves her home and children, and she sets out on her own.
