Offenbach's Life

Offenbach was born in Cologne, Germany, in 1819. His father was a cantor and his mother was a pianist. Offenbach began studying music at an early age and showed great talent. He moved to Paris in 1833 to study at the Conservatoire de Paris.

Offenbach did not graduate from the Conservatoire, but he quickly made a name for himself as a composer of light music. His first operetta, Orpheus in the Underworld, was a huge success when it premiered in 1858. Offenbach went on to compose over 100 operettas, many of which are still performed today.

Offenbach died in Paris in 1880. He was buried in the Père Lachaise Cemetery.
